After the quite disappointing „In the now“ from 2016 Barry Gibb returned to an old idea, that was on his mind for a long time. There were speculations already after the breakup of the Bee Gees more than 15 years ago, that the eldest Brother of the Gibb Family could output a country album. Releases like „Drown on the river“, „Grey Ghost“or „Daddies little girl“ seemed to announce it. But „In the now“ was a mixture of different stiles and those rather mediocre songs ended up as bonus tracks on the extended edition.
Well, the Gibb fans all know, that their idols once posessed Johnny Cash´s house near Nashville until it burned down. So it was no big surprised when we heard that he would redo a selection of classic songs in his preferred style. The first songs that appeared „Words of a fool„, a song which fell out of his second solo album because it didn´t fit there, and „Butterfly„, a lost gem from the Australian years before the first wave of success hit the Bee Gees, are simply stunning.
The speacial thing about the songs is that Gibb chose duet-partners for them. So there are appearances of Jason Isbell (Words of a fool), Alison Krauss, Brandi Carlile, David Rawlings, Dolly Parton, Gillian Welch, Jay Buchanan, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Olivia Newton-John, Sheryl Crow und Tommy Emmanuel. Greenfields will be issued on january 8th.
